Risk maps

Risk legend

Risk legend

Risk maps show the distribution of weather related risk conditions through colours and symbols of the previous 24 hours. The variables shown are temperature (frost), wind (storm) and precipitation (amount).
Risk levels are valid for the 24 hours preceding the indicated hour, if not otherwise indicated on the map legend, and presented at time intervals of a few hours.

If there are two risks simultaneously, the risk with the higher priority is shown. The risks are presented with the following priorities: Precipitation > Wind > Frost. To get more precision, please consult the "point" forecast (by location).

A specific description of each risk is presented below.

Frost

Danger of frost is shown by a blue surface on the map.

When there is danger of frost, the air temperature (at 2 m height) sinks within the indicated period for at least one hour under the freezing point of 0°C. Frost in connection with precipitation is counted as snow.

Wind

There are 3 stages for wind risk, which are represented on maps in different colours.

A wind risk is indicated if within the indicated period the gusts of wind at the selected place exceed a certain speed in at least one hour. The following stages are valid:

  • Yellow: Gusts of wind with a speed of over 50km/h.
  • Orange: Gusts of wind with a speed of over 70km/h.
  • Red: Gusts of wind with a speed of over 115km/h.

Precipitation

There are 3 stages for precipitation risk, which are represented on maps in different colours.

The symbols indicate the predicted strength of the precipitation.

  • Yellow surface: Greater 50mm within the preceding 24 hours.
  • Orange surface: Greater 70mm within the preceding 24 hours.
  • Red surface: Greater 90mm within the preceding 24 hours.
