Topography

The local topography is one of the main drivers of most environmental and meteorological processes. In the absence of measurements and observation data, it is the only data source for downscaling the model weather to the local point. meteoblue offers the following digital elevation models:

  • GMTED 250 (USGS)
  • GMTED 1000 (USGS)

Description

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) have collaborated on the development of a notably enhanced global elevation model named the Global Multi-resolution Terrain Elevation Data 2010 (GMTED2010) that replaces GTOPO30 as the elevation dataset of choice for global and continental scale applications. GMTED2010 is a major improvement in consistency and vertical accuracy over GTOPO30.

meteoblue has included the highest resolution available of GMTED2010, namely 250 m. Furthermore a 1 km resolution version is available. GMTED2010 incorporates the current best available global elevation data.
